The material is thick enough that it doesn't show through. For reference, I'm 5'3" and weigh about 130 pounds, and I ordered a size M!

This dress fit like a glove. The neckline was modest and the length was perfect. It is lined and not see through. Wish it had pockets and loops for the tie belt. Other than that, it was perfect. I’m going to order in other colors. I loved it!
